Sew it is ...!

Due to various personal circumstances in my life, I have not been able to quilt much. It might explain why I have been feeling so much out of sort. Quilting is my sanity ... my creative outlet. And although I have other creative outlets, quilting is my number one.

As I was vacuuming the cat hairs off a bed quilt ....

I realized how much I miss quilting in my life. It's really not the same. I don't feel the same.

I read on blogs about relatives and friends being unable to comprehend a quilter's need to create and would ask, "how many more quilts do you need? Don't you think you have enough ... You can't even use them all ... Oh, and ... You have way too much fabric. You can't possibly use it all in this life time" etc ....

In my mind, does it really matter how many quilts you have? Does it really matter that you have a gazillion more quilt projects you want to make? Who cares? And ... why don't you mind your own bees wax!

All that matters is that you are doing something that you love and that love is expressed via a quilt that will not only keep someone warm but also serve as a reminder that they are loved ... that someone cared enough to make them a quilt.

I have told my little Pumpkin, when I am no longer on this earth, keep the quilts you want and stand on a street corner and give the rest away!

What's your take on the subject? Have you had people express their lack of understanding regarding your hobbies?

Thanks for stopping by my little corner in cyber space. Catch you all later!

Yes, total lack of understanding. Do people ask painters how many paintings that they need to create? How much paint to they need?

Lately, I have a gal at work that is bugging me for a quilt...but I gave her one, which within two months, was chewed up and torn by her dog. She gave it to her dog...and now she wants another one.

Nope! They don't get us!

I've mostly had the "so much fabric" statement. I've told people "it's just my thing." Some people collect gnomes or read sci-fi novels or restore old cars - whatever. I quilt. Or if I'm being ornery, I say dryly "I don't like to be cold." Then just wait to see what response I get 😂

I think we quilters can all relate. I get those comments all the time and just tell them that it is my therapy. I know that sewing keeps me sane.

Yes, as Needled Mom said "we can all relate", as quilters; I am not sure that others do and that's too bad for them. I get out of sorts if I am not sewing/creating. It's okay to find your energy wherever it lies, for us it's in the process of quiltmaking. Enjoy what centers you.

I feel ya sister! I haven't had people be so rude as to comment, but I do have those arguments with myself all the time. The quilts are piling up -- I definitely don't need any more. And the fabric is ridiculous -- I wake up in the middle of the night sometimes worrying that I'm leaving my kids a nightmare. My parents left us one, so I guess I'm just passing it on LOL. I just can't help it though -- so, I know EXACTLY how you feel!
