Since I don't have much to blog about that's related to my quilting adventures, I thought I would share with you the latest addition to my sewing room.
Tah dah....! Meet my new cutting table!This is the front of the table or would that be the sides... hum?!?
As you can see, lots of drawers. However, these are special. They're called "pushmi-pullyu" drawers. I didn't know what they were until DH explained the concept to me!
Basically it's one big drawer that's accessible from either sides. The original idea come from Doctor Doolittle's antelope (a llama in the movie starring Eddie Murphy). Enough trivia! lol
The table is made out of Sugar Maple. It's sort of neat as Stephen artistically worked into the design the places where the tree had been tapped.If you look closely, you'll see holes where they tapped the tree for maple sugar water.
The top of the table is wide enough to accommodate my 36 + inch cutting mat vertical or horizontal. That was one of my pre-requisites. It drove me nuts that my mat didn't fit vertically on my craft table. lol
I've already started to fill those drawers. I'm so glad to have a place for my Fat Quarters.As you've all probably heard me say a thousand times, the down side to having a wood shop next to a sewing room is the dust. Yep, dust, dust and more dust. So now my FQ have a place where dust will be minimal.
So now I shall leave you to test out this new cutting table. I get to enjoy a bit of quilting before my nose is back in the books again.

I love the idea of access from both sides. That is a beautiful piece of furniture and certainly one that anyone whould love to have in their sewing room. I love the idea of the "holes" left in the wood. How clever. Guess all that dust paid off with such a gorgeous piece.

Wow that is just lovely!! easy reach for your fabrics when you need them, a lip so that you can grab a stool and still sit comfortably while you do some prep work and a rotating cutting table!! impressive!! well worth the post.. I am sure we will see more once the holidays are over and you can play with your table.
I am feeling really jealous right now. Another great feature about this awsome table are the wheels!

You are one lucky lady!! That table is fabulous. I have to clear off my sewing table (which I am very thankful for) to make room for cutting or sandwiching a small quilt. A cutting table would be a dream!
What a beautiful cabinet. I love the thought put into integrating the tap holes into the design. Lots of pretty quilts are going to be made now . . . I can just feel it in my bones *s*
Wow Stephan has amazing talent in woodworking. Your new cabinet is now a feature in your sewing room. I love the history of the maple tapping. You'll be cranking out the quilt for sure.

Stephen has made a beautiful table for you! I have never seen the Dr. Doolittle movie with Eddie Murphy but I do understand the concept - what a great idea. The drawers look a perfect size for fat quarters - and notions. Have fun filling them!

What a wonderful storage space / cutting table. From this post, it looks like the benefits of having a woodshop next to the sewing room offsets the disadvantages.

Love your cutting table, and the concept of being able to open the drawers from either side. The divided sections in the drawers is really wonderful too! Enjoy it!
