One of the many things I learned at the Ricky Tims' seminar is to have a design wall, something I did not have. I would usually use the floor in my sewing room and police the traffic making sure a cat or a human did not mess up the lay out! Certainly not an efficient way of doing things! So........
This is what's up! My new design wall and on it, the lay out for the quilt French Cottage Garden by Grab-Apple Hill Designs. This is the one that I hand embroidered the panels a while back. You can read about here if you wish.
I'm using fabrics from the Dandelion Girl collection by Fig Tree Quilts for Moda. Have I ever mentioned that I'm a Moda girl? Oh, I love Moda fabrics! ;o) But, I digress....
As I looked at the layout it dawned on me that my panels are white while the background of my blocks are cream. Hum......?
My friend Jennifer mentioned that with the Warm & Natural batting, which is what I plan on using, it will cream the white up a bit. I sure hope so!
Today, I plan on quilting all day. Oh.... I hear my machine calling me! lol It sure would be nice to have to top sewn today.
Have a great day everyone!

Oh, this is going to be so sweet! I agree with your friend - the warm and natural batting will help the white look creamy.
((HUGS))
I'm such a Moda girl, too *yum* I've always used a design floor, large vertical surfaces are difficult to come by around here. Someday . . . . *s*
Very pretty colors. The quilt will be beautiful.
I always use my design wall. I used to put it on the floor but was always looking at it in an awkward manner. It is so much nicer upright.
Love Moda too. The feel is wonderful.
How did you make that design wall, I have envied those of you who have one? Oh well I don´t know where I should put one if I had it, I say as Libby "large vertical surfaces are hard to find around here".
what do you use for the design wall..........I have a big wall space so that helps............
I am just mad for Moda as well!! And especially the Dandelion girl line out right now. I have been buying it like crazy. That is a great pattern for that fabric!!
I love the fabrics you've used.
I've got a design wall ( well big polystyrene tile) that I use for small quilts but for bigger quilts I've got to use the bed.
love and hugs xxx
I have to use a design "bed" when I lay our a large quilt. My design wall in my sewing room is a little on the small side.
This is going to be another gorgeous creation. I love the Dandelion Girl fabrics. I am a Moda girl too!!!
I've been meaning to make a design wall as well, but so far my design floor is working okay, even if it does take policing.
I don't have a design wall as space is limited in this house...small rooms...oh well one day. Those fabrics look yummy and I agree the white will look warmer.
It's looking good Carole!! And the Warm & Natural will definetely warm up the white. HEY, I'm a Moda girl toooooo. LOL!!
Looks like lots of us are Moda girls lol!! What a pretty quilt...the warm and natural should do the trick. I rearranged my sewing room a couple of months ago to enlarge my design wall-what a difference!!!
I am so glad that you have a design wall. I bet you can appreciate the difference between the floor and wall space to see what you have going on. When I mention design wall, I often get a blank look from the quilter. What's design wall?? I covered a sheet of homasote board with a flannel sheet and hung it up against a wall. This is nice as it allows me to stick pins in where I need them to support the weight of a strip, but typically, the blocks stick onto it just fine. I love this design wall. Also, I can take the flannel sheet off to wash it when the threads build up.
Love the Moda fabrics! Fig Tree designs are fun, aren't they? I think I need some of this Dandelion Girl collection, too. Very pretty!
The warm and natural can show through a bit, but I haven't noticed a big change in color. Happy sewing day! I met Ricky at the Road to CA Conference, has lunch with him! He seems to honestly excited about quilting and finds great joy in sharing his experience. Such a fun person...and cute, oh my goodness...
I love the fabrics you chose. The color pallet is just gorgeous. I can't wait to see the finished quilt.
I, too, do not have a design wall. I love the colours you are using. The pinwheels are all so pretty.
Your quilts are exquisite. If I did not have a date with the TV in a few minutes, I would read all your blogs. I love the quilts that are pieced and embroidered. How fabulous. I think your blog may actually be inspiration to get me moving. What beautiful work! Take a bow.
