As of late, we have been having beautiful fall weather in Upstate NY. Our days are around 70F (21C), however our nights have gotten much cooler.
It's been 59F (15C) in the house for that past few days and I just couldn't take it any longer. I caved in and decided that despite the fact that it's only September, I need some heat!
I don't know if it's a northerner thing, but we don't usually turn on the heat until mid to late October, sometimes even the beginning of November. It just doesn't seem right to be heating the house any earlier.
So what's the next best thing to not feel too guilty about it, use the wood stove! ;o) I built myself a little fire to take the humidity out of the house.
On the quilting front, this is what I've been working on. What a beast!
You know, I'm thinking, after the fact of course, that it may have been a good time to try Wendy's applique method. Between the size of the quilt, the freezer paper and the stabilizer, it made for a mess to maneuver! Gosh, it was stiff! You'd think I was trying to machine applique cardboard! lol
Please don't mind the photo, I didn't take the time to straighten things out! It was past 11.30 p.m. when I decided that it was time to quit! I just didn't have the energy to continue attempting to take the freezer paper out!
I'm hoping to have this beast done before October 4th, the date I must turn in all of my quilts for the guild's quilt show. Yea, I know! Did I ever mention that I work best under pressure? Yea, and I have two papers to write this week for school!
Well, I'm off to take care of school work. I do hope you are enjoying the beautiful fall weather! Have a great day everyone!

I think I'd be lighting my fire too if we had those temps, just a sign of what's to come. Your applique looks fasinating, I first thought turkey's, but see you've labeled it chooks. Look forward to seeing it completed.
The wood stove is a perfect solution. Around here we are known to have a fire in the fireplace with the back door wide open *s* That way we can enjoy the ambiance and still not roast from the heat!
I recognize that pattern - love those cickens! It's been so long since I've had a chance to visit - can't wait to see what you've been up to.
Don't blame you a bit for starting the fire - perfect for cold mornings.
I wish it would cool off a bit here. I have a bunch of new fall clothes I am dying to wear, but people will think I am out of my mind if I put on these wool pants and sweaters! There is a hint of fall to come in the air, but the temperatures are still up there.
Oh, I'd love to be C-O-L-D! We're suppose to be below 100 degrees all week - sweater weather - LOL.
Enjoy the chill in the air.
Love what you're working on but then again I love everything you do. :-)
This is the part I hated most about getting this quilt underway! Good luck with it!
I agree with turning on the heat. I love this time of year when it's cool outside and you can enjoy the cool inside without having the AC on. I try not to turn on the heat until the same time you do.
Good luck on making your deadlines. I don't mind deadlines for a lot of things, but I can't quilt under pressure.
We've been getting the same cold temps. The heat has kicked on and the cat is hugging the heat vents.
Your quilt is looking so cute.
I wanna make a fire!!!! I'm still waiting for the cool off. It's getting cooler but not yet that cool. Hubby would think I've lost my mind. Especially with the hot flashes and all. LOL We may be using the a/c this winter.
No, not turning on the heat until sometime in October's not a northerner thing. Then again, those of us further south DON'T NEED TO! ROFLOL! Our daytime temps have still been in the 80s, but it should cool a bit by tomorrow. Truly, though, there have been times when I've gone to watch my kids play soccer in November and I've worn shorts!
Nice fire, where is the hot cider?
I can't wait to see the quilt without the freezer paper!
Yes In the UK it has turned colder here too Ive had to put the heating on and we have had frost too about two days ago as the sunflowers fell to the floor awww. Alot of people are saying hasnt the weather gone haywire. Your applique project looks interesting you are so brave I have not done any large applique projects yet, I just maydo though ;o) I love the Halloween needlework projects they are great.
I would die if it was so cold inside, we have the heat on the whole year.
Oh yes, I know what you mean about a chill in the air. I broke down and turned the furnace on this morning.
That is quite the picture - it looks like a bunch of egg whites on chicken legs - LOL
