I have recently finished the fifth (5) block in a series of six(6) blocks. This pattern is called My Favorite Things by Cabin Fever Designs (Robyn Pandolph). I've sewn the frame on to give you an idea of what the quilt will look like. There's a shashing in between the blocks. The framing fabric is also my border fabric.
I started this twin size quilt in the Spring 2001. This pattern was my first real attempt at getting to love hand applique. This project is part of my "List of Quilts to Complete for 2007" (or LQC 2007 as I like to call it) on the Stashbuster group. I can certainly envision one less fat quarter penalty! lol So far I have two projects crossed of the LQC 2007.
I really don't know why I set the quilt aside. I have such a problem with temptation. You should see how many hand applique projects I have going. I think my problem is I lack focus. This isn't just with quilting but pretty much with school too! Okay, so my whole life lacks focus! LOL I just get so excited with new projects or a new book that I just hop to it right away and forget what I have going on.
In an attempt to help me cope with my lack of focus I bought the audio CD Focus by Stephen R. Covey. Barbara Brandeburg had blogged about it. I figured why not! I'm an audio book listener while I quilt or commute to Montreal.
Now, if I can only stay focused enough to apply this motivational CD to my life!
Have a great day every one!

That is a beautiful block! The applique looks very intricate. So lovely!
Very nice, Carole! I wonder though: is the corn and bean quilt the right project for someone who's having a problem with focus?! LOL! Happy quilting!
This is a beautiful quilt Carole. The world today has so many choices, and so many of them are great things, that it is hard to limit yourself to finish something before starting something else. I have this problem, and am trying to work on limiting my exposure to the choices. Finish something, then look around for something else. I haven't been able to do it yet, but maybe someday.
The block is completely lovely in every way. I'm unfamiliar with Covey's "Focus" but certainly should check it out. I have lots of his other books... no, I won't COUNT them! ;) I could apply some focus to my life easily!
Carole, That block is amazingly beautiful, just my cup of tea. I'm a Robyn Pandolph fan from several years. Her soft fabrics are so tempting. I saw her on Simply Quilts and she talked about over-dying and softening colors (was it with bleach?) and the results are terrific.
This is a lovely block and the pink fabric is my all time favorite piece of fabric ever!! I used it on my first quilt and though I have bought many more pieces since then I have never found one I love more.
Can't wait to see the finished quilt.
I've been a huge Robyn Pandolph fan for a very long time - more so when she was with Moda but still a fan.
I got to meet Robyn 5 years ago when she taught a class at one of the LQS. I picked her up at the airport and spent some time with her - she's a delightful person. I didn't get to take her class but I did sit in and listen.
Really beautiful flower block! I've never gotten into hand applique, but seeing something like that always makes me want to try again. But I won't, at least not right now! I really relate to the focus issue you discussed -- no new classes until I finish up several unfinished projects from classes I was very enthusiastic about way back when...
Thanks for the discussion,
Cheri
What a lovely block! I am with you on the "lack of focus" thing -- so many projects, so little time, and I want to jump right in with both feet!
Ok, since I'm making June an no-buy month for myself, I think I might also declare it a "finish at least one top" month as well. No new starts until I have a finish? Oh man, I can just see my resolve crumbling on this one!
Oh-- ps -- LOVE the corn and bean blocks! But I get nervous when I see instructions that include things like "190+ pieces" Don't know that I could handle over 2000!
Your block looks wonderful. My first needleturn try was with Robyn Pandolph . . . maybe I should dig it out and have a look. Mine got put away because I thought my work was not good. It's probably not as bad as I think *s*
Carole...I think you have the same "problem"...I mean "blessing" as I do. It's called having an overly creative mind...always having too many ideas and interests and not enough hours in the day! Can't wait to see this quilt finished!
LOVE THAT BLOCK!!!! That is too cute. Can't wait to see more.
Love the block...very nice .........where are the others.......
